pogi points

atty. argee guevarra writes for business world & is a very high-profile lawyer for his age (he's affiliated with sanlakas, a left-leaning group, and he has represented the oakwood leaders). of course, he stands out for me as the writer of "pogi points", a specific point system that determines how "pogi" a guy is. the last time i read about this was in my freshmen year at diliman. of course, some items are outdated (it's been 10 years!), but it's still a great laugh!

here are argee's pogi points [with my comments in italicized braces]:

=================================

For a more contemporary understanding of how to score pogi points, I devised a system of prescribing pogi points to male accessories and any other attribute which might significantly contribute to a guy's gross human worth, exempting any facial distortions.

THE TRANSPO - Driving a car to school which is automatic 10 pogi points.
Chaffeur-driven 20 pogi points.
Subtract 5 if the rinky dinky type that regularly breaks down when going out on dates at Jollibee. [a Kia, a non-souped up box-typ Lancer, my orange-then black-now orange Celica would qualify for this; i don't know if there are still Geminis rolling around though.]
Add 10 pogi points if brand new.
Add 20 if it is a Japanese car and 50 if it is either a Benz or BMW. [so no points if it's an Opel or a US car? how about Ford gas guzzlers?]
A Porsche is disqualified from earning points because anyone who owns one automatically becomes a Richard Gomez clone.
No pogi points for those who carpool or who ride the jeep. [how about the FX?]
Plus 30 pogi points if you ride a mountain bike to class because green is "in".
If its a BMX or pedicab, minus 50 pogi points.

THE PEDIGREE - If the family name is associated with politics, add 10 pogi points.
If its a Marcos or a crony sounding name, subtract 50 pogi points (ill-gotten rep). [does erap count?]
If the lineage could be traced to a Spanish friar, add another 10 pogi points (tisoy muy bien!)
If its a taipan sounding name as in Sy or Gokongwei, add 20 pogi points.
No pogi points for ethnic sounding family names. [ouch! He3x!]

THE ADDRESS - A Makati address gets an automatic 5 pogi points while an Alabang address an automatic 10 pogi points.
If in Makati, Dasma, Magallanes, and Forbes, plus 20 [pre-The Fort condos],
San Lorenzo Village and San Antonio Village plus 10,
Bel Air plus 5.
10 pogi points for New Manila, Greenhills and Valle Verde.
No pogi points for those who live in Corinthian Garden because it's the popular address of corrupt Marcos generals.
In Q.C., 10 pogi points for residents or even dormers of Xavierville, La Vista, and Ayala Heights. [a true-blue bias? :>]
"Gilage(as in gilid ng La Vista) people", minus 5 pogi points.
No pogi points for Looban, Gagalangin, Calumpang, San Andres Bukid, Fairview and Novaliches residents.

THE HIGH SCHOOL - A high school diploma in the States or U.K., 20 pogi points (lamang sila sa Inglesan).
Any school abroad, plus 15 pogi points.
If an alumnus of any all-boys Catholic school, 10 pogi points.
Basta nakatapos ng high school, plus 5 pogi points.

THE SPORT - If the guy's into soccer, plus 10 pogi points.
Any racket sport (except ping-pong and pelota), plus 15 pogi points.
If engaging in not-so-popular but preppie sports like rowing, fencing, and archery as well as sepak takraw, arnis, eskrima, sikaran (indigenous sports are "in" dahil eksotik) plus 20 pogi points.
For the golf fanatic, plus 50 pogi points.
Polo, 100 pogi points.
Billiards, minus 5 pogi points.

THE LUNCH SPOT (kung saan dalas mag-lunch) - Beach House and Rodic's plus 5 pogi points. [Beach House!!!]
College cafeteria and CASAA minus 5 pogi points.
Trellis, Paseo, Rasa Singapura, SM North Food Center and any resto (except fastfood-type) along Katipunan, plus 10 pogi points.
No pogi points for those lugging a thermos lunchbox and a Coleman. [this would disqualify most of the baon-lugging work crowd now... come to think of it, why were we free to bring only cash for food, but now we have to subsist on baon? it's probably because we're now spending for our own stuff, not relying on allowances...]

THE ORG - AIESEC and its local hybrids that have chapters in DLSU, Ateneo, Miriam, Assumption and CRC [old UA&P], 20 pogi points.
Frats (the Big 7), 15 pogi points.
Basketball, Football Varsity Team and UP Mountaineers, 10 pogi points (mala machete kasi ang dating nila).
LFS, SAMASA, People's Service Corps and Center for Nationalist Studies, plus 5 pogi points because they have a conscience which is now rare among UP students.
Collegian, 25 pogi points (sipsip).

THE SYOTA - If the current squeeze or the former flame is a beauty titlist, an Absolut girl or one of Manila's Loveliest, automatic 50 pogi points. [what's an Absolut girl???]
A campus celebrity or a showbiz denizen, 40 pogi points.
If the typical pretty colegiala, 30 pogi points.
Any girl, plus 10 pogi points.
A mainstay of That's Entertainment, minus 100 pogi points. [ooh, that's nasty]

THE POGI INDEX
Mukhacne (pimple na tinubuan ng mukha) - negative pogi points
Presentable - 0-30 pogi points
Mr. Pogi (Eat Bulaga caliber) - 31-50 pogi points
Gwaping - 51-100 pogi points
Istading (Stud, kung baga) - 101-150 pogi points
Whataguy - 151-200 pogi points
Grand Debonair - 201 and above

[where does Mr. Suave fit in? he3x!]

garbage greetings & diana danaya

on my way to work this morning, i was following this huge green trash compactor. this was around 1.5 times bigger than the yellow trash compactor makati uses. when i tailed it much closer, i saw a sticker on one of its frames:

"UP College of Business"

at first i thought it was an illusion or maybe i read it wrong (it could be "UP College of Medicine", since it also had a black font against a white background). but no, it really was my old college. when i went to the truck's right side, another "UP College of Business" was also there.

at first i felt weird, why would our college sticker be on a trash compactor? but trying to see the good side, i thought maybe it was an entrepreneur from our college, and he wanted to show that he's making it big by hauling trash!

hmm....

=========================

they played that gel promo again on the radio, the one where if you win it, you get diana zubiri's dress. (for those unfamiliar with her, she's the chick who caused the controversy by posing in a red bikini on the shaw flyover for FHM; she's now into acting in a fantasy series and she's ok.) anyway, not only that, but the winner also has a chance to spend a weekend with her in a private beach! upon listening to the details, three winners will be chosen!

i seriously don't know what the point of this contest. i mean, if you do get chosen and since it's a sponsored event, i doubt that you will get any action with diana, especially if there are three of you, so what's the point of spending a weekend with her in a private beach? if you are allowed to do whatever you want, isn't that legalized pimping? weird....

unbelievable university upshot

this is a delayed post, it should've been posted last week, but as usual, work got in the way...

our officemate texted me from the gym, "check out studio 23." so when we switched channels, we saw it was the 4th quarter, with UP leading DLSU 60-56 i think, but still leading! then it was only 20-seconds left, and UP won, wonder of wonders!

despite my feelings previously on UP's status in the UAAP, i still felt quite giddy for winning this game. it's like finding a P50 bill in your pocket; you didn't know it was there, but it was a pleasant surprise when you get it!

question is, will the taga-UP people be finding more P50 bills in their pockets? :>

challenging chess choices

despite appearances, i suck in playing chess. that's because i get overwhelmed with all the thinking involved so that my mind shuts down. consider this scenario:

it's my eleventh move in the game, with the pieces generally astrew throughout the board. i look at the pieces. this is what's on my mind:

do i move the knight forward?
do i retreat the knight?
shall i make my pawn eat his bishop?
if i eat his bishop, my pawn will be eaten by his knight, then i'll be exposing my queen
if i expose my queen, will i be able to avoid the onslaught?
do i castle my king?
will i be constricting my king too much?
will my rook be able to move more freely?
won't i be exposing my rook?
should i move the bishop to the king's row?
won't there be a surprise waiting there, i.e. my bishop will be eaten there?
will my bishop be trapped and be rendered useless for the rest of the game?
should i position my pawn in the middle, because it's a strategic spot?
what will my pawn do there once that happens?

while i'm going through all these scenarios, i get confused and interchange one scenario for another. as a result, i just take the first instinct (move the knight forward).

meanwhile, my opponent, because he's focused and has a less cluttered mind, would know what to do & have one or two backup plans. and he wins.

of course there are times i can be impulsive, but rarely on things that need a semblance of thinking. i could take hours trying to make sense of the thought processes involved at work, in determining which route to take on a trip, or even analyzing a friend's current situation. i think too damned much.

i moved the pawn now, should i move it back?
if i move it back, won't my king be exposed again?
shall my rook eat the knight now?
if i wait too long, won't the other guy's pawn become queen?

then, i get checkmated.

bank blustering boondoggle

the rally's getting bigger at the ayala-paseo corner. my latest spy report (hi pinky!) says that there were a lot of people in front of 6750, but not anymore... so, with the latest test to this administration, let's go to another lee & bambi blooper! mwehehehehe! :D

(scenario, bambi's local bank)

bambi: don't forget to drop by the bank, i have to withdraw something
lee: okay (proceeds to drive past the bank)
bambi: oy! ano ba? nalampasan na natin! (gives lee the old one-two-three slap)
lee: sorry... (sniffs, drives in reverse back to the bank...). park muna tayo to wait for the ones in the vestibule
bambi: anakngpatingambagalbagalniladibanilaalamgagawinnilaatmnamanyan!!!
howhardcoulditbebilisannyonamaynaghihintaypaditosalabas!!!
lee: hon, relax... ayan, tayo na
bambi: finally... teka, nasaan na atm card ko?
lee: tsk3x... ayan tuloy, nakarma ka...
bambi: (mental note, ask chris evans to send some money from fantastic four ticket sales)
lee: (mental note, ask jessica alba to send some money from fantastic four ticket sales)

subversive school spirit

for my two to three blog readers who want a break from my political diatribes, this is for you (well, more for me than for you, but you get the drift).

as the UAAP season comes around, i distinctly notice the intense rivalry between the blue & the green dudes. of course, being from the great state university, we always like to think we're above such trifle details. truth be told though, it's because our basketball team always loses.... i even get surprised whenever we'd won a game! we can win at cheering, track, piko, or what-not, but because we live in a basketball-centric society, not having a fighting chance for the fighting maroons is just plain sad. coupled with the fact that we're supposed to be one of the top universities who can't even eke out a good basketball team, we just let the UAAP season pass us by...

in addition, people have noticed that there's a sense of "elitism" among iskos, that if you don't come from the state u, you don't belong in that intellectual circle. why must we always have to assert to ourselves that we are the smartest humans around? i thought about this and came up with this generalized (disclaimer!) analysis:

the blue dudes have their smarts, their riches, and their assertiveness, so they don't need to prove anything.

the green dudes have their sports, their riches, and their connections, so they also don't need to prove anything.

us from the state u have the smarts which we can't really express that well verbally. plus the fact that most of us don't have the second factor that the blue & green dudes have in common....

so does our sense of elitism stem from our insecurities, since our smarts is all what we have, and that's it? that's just plain sad too...

let's see how the flames look like! he3x! :P

scrutiny on scurrilous subjects

I’m waiting for my own PC to get its act together and save my excel file. In the meantime, I might as well update my dormant blog.

Why have I been so lazy in updating as of late? My daily routine for the past few days involve sometimes going to the gym, keeping my ear to the ground because of the developments in our beloved republic, chatting through YM, reading blogs, and squeezing in some work for an upcoming big presentation! Heck, it’s a Sunday, and I’m still at the office!!!

Anyhoo, the past few days have brought us the popular gloriagate scandals (for lack of a better term), which is why I’ve been keeping my ear to the ground lately. Among all things, political observations are among my blog content regulars, but work really gets in the way… he3x! In addition, if I had made a blog post, it would’ve been so lengthy that time for friendstering would be lost. But since I’m constrained due to my current excel situation, I might as well comment on the issue. I have commented though on a fellow blogger’s post on this (I still have to ask permission to add him to my links).

What can I say about the recent scandals? These are my thoughts:

The tapes are real. It was her nasally voice. She admitted it herself, but it didn’t really come as a surprise.

I do believe she (and/or her minions) cheated. To what extent, I don’t know. But not only for her side, but also the other side.

On the jueteng thing, I’m not too sure. I dunno if the three Arroyos are on the take, but I wouldn’t really put it past them, since jueteng has tentacles as far as the eye can see, and even beyond that.

The only thing keeping her afloat is the lack of a viable alternative. Any change proposed by the so-called opposition would have birthing pains, plus bring in the same problems as the status quo. (I call them “so-called opposition” in reference to Amando Doronila’s comment that the current opposition is only opposing for the sake of taking power; they do not have an ideological basis whatsoever.)

On one hand, the opposition saw that the prez was at her lowest popularity point, so they jumped on the chance. Out came the jueting thing and the tapes. In case you haven’t noticed, they also were responsible for stopping the E-VAT implementation, in effect stopping another unpopular administration motion.

(I hate taxes; no one’s supposed to like them. But in order to bring this republic out of the pits, hard measures have to be taken. Although it’s a given that the graft thing must be solved in order to reduce the leakages, collections would have to be optimized. This is where the VAT comes in, since it increases the verification system of taxation & income.)

On the other hand, the administration has had a lousy time implementing its stated goals. Only the Finance department seems to be getting its act together. As for the peace & order, legislation, health services, education, public works, the performance is dismal.

I voted for her in the hopes that she be the better candidate; that she implement the hard reforms. She thinks she’s unpopular because she’s being hard on us; she’s actually being too soft on us, not doing enough and not being quick enough. She may be an economist, but she’s primarily a politician.

Unfortunately, her alternatives are worse. Unless we see someone who is worth changing the status quo for, who would bring genuine change, there would always be a stalemate. With that, you can bet your bottom dollar that it’ll come back to you with 5-10 more additional pesos.

====================

I’m restarting my PC now. I do hope I don’t lose that much work…. :-s

In addition, let's see where the flames go... ;)

friggin feudalism

We’ve always been lamenting about the brain drain happening in our beloved republic, and when I see folks actually coming back to apply what they’ve learned abroad, it brings joy to my heart.

Take this for example: studying at NYU then becoming a director for a highly-rated TV show here out in the sticks! Imagine that!

Then what happens? A member of the friggin’ elite guns him down, because said director was just trying to stop a fight! The gunman hops in his Ford Expedition/Explorer (trademark gas-guzzler), then escapes!

What will probably happen? The gunman might be taken in, then get off lightly. Meanwhile, others will have one more reason not to come back here after making good abroad, thus depriving the nation of their talent. The gunman will have a sense of entitlement, just because he can afford it, and he’ll go on believing that he’ll never be punished.

Makes me want to bash in the next Expedition I see, but it might be my boss’s, and he’s a good guy.

Hay…. And people in power are wondering why the middle class is flying out in droves??? THIS IS THE REASON!

The director’s just 26 years old, he had a full life ahead of him, and he’s gone now.

This sucks.

glasses on my desk Posted by Hello

metallic monocoles

In my never-ending pursuit for vanity, I have decided to look for glasses that will serve as an alternative to my contact lenses. For some reason, my contacts seem to “crash” as the day progresses, especially if I don’t get enough sleep. Weirdly enough, it only affects one eye.

I have always used my old glasses as a backup, until it occurred to me that using 5-yr old gold rimmed corroded glasses wasn’t exactly decent, much more presentable. So I hunted a pair at my traditional optical shop, where my sister picked out this dark gray rimless pair. My dad, cousin & cousin-in-law (married to a different cousin) all have rimless glasses, and it made them look younger. Of course, with my desire to hide my age, I also went for the rimless.

When I came back to check out my grado, I was told how much it was… hmm, with the slim lens & the frame, it cost as much as a low end cellphone. But hey, I’d be using this for 5 more years right?
When I picked it up, I showed it at the office. An officemate w/ an EENT dad said that my frame was worth 1/6 of the shelf price!!! Argh!!! Then again, she saw that it was titanium, so it was ok.

Ah, the price of vanity indeed…

I’ll post the pix once I figure out how to work the photo upload thingie…

bora's buried buddy

(delayed transmission, day 3...)

April 21, 2005

waking up late, i thought i had to check out of my room, since i was only scheduled for 3 days & 2 nights, but willy's was able to extend my stay in my current room! so i went for my free breakfast (tapsilog), then meandered into the red coconut beach sans storm this time. i saw bambi swimming in the sea so i waved. she then ran to the shore and tripped a bit (note to self, delete the tripping part)... ;)

after a while, i asked her if she could bury me with under the sand, something i've never tried in a beach! and what a better place to be buried, surrounded by polvoron sand! he3x! of course, i expected her nephews & nieces to join in since burying a person in the sand is interesting to say the least, but alas, the sun was too hot and bambi was the only one throwing sand on me while the kids were swimming around. poor bambi though, she got burnt by the sun since she was burying me at around 10am, while the sand shielded me from the rays (except for my face though, that's why i had a slight reverse raccoon look for a while). i guess bambi's tan desire applies here: "be careful of what you wish for, it may come true..."

we had lunch at red coconut, forgot what we ate though. and since bambi was still burnt, she couldnt bear swimming w/ her burns... so i tagged along in bambi & her sister's shopping spree. then their family went to parasailing. since bambi was in the middle of being massaged by the manang-dala people, i couldnt leave her alone (no, it was *not* because ryan eigenmann was beside her... hrm3x...)... while waiting for her to finish, i grabbed an overpriced shawarma & went for a discounted DSL fix. bambi joined me afterwards and posted her live from boracay
& bora bloopers post. while waiting for the rest to finish parasailing, we went to d'mall to look for those irritatingly matching outfits that would piss everyone else off. we ended up buying matching board shorts & seahorse shirts (i had the shirt, she had a tank top, which was more expensive since hers wasn't on sale but mine was.... gets? he3x!).

we finally met up at mañanas for some very filling tacos which we had to eat pronto, since her tita arranged for another seafood fiesta at the dampa area. we planned on waiting for her sisters to make aya for drinks, so we waited in bambi's room w/ the kids' yaya hanging around as well. the call didnt come, so we just decided to hang at the room & watch the Bruce Lee Story (where we dubbed some of the fight dialogue) & Friends. i waited till she had to go to sleep, so i tucked her in and made my walk back to jonah's.

hmm, 2 more days to go! ambagal ba? he3x! :P

clinical cornballs

i unexpectedly visited the hospital this weekend. well, technically, not a hospital, more of a clinic. bambi had to go in because of "acute gastroenteritis and mild dehydration," although the cause of the stomach pain is still undetermined, since we had eaten practically the same food for the past week. she was attached to an IV drip, so i felt i had to be there. at any rate, bambi's narrative could be found here. my post is purely for the corresponding bloopers that come with this experience... he3x! :P

bambi: buti andito na kayo
lee: bakit?
bambi: kasi manonood na ako ng Wag Kukurap (GMA series based on the Philippine Ghost Stories books)
lee: bakit, takot ka?
bambi: uhum
lee: hmm, what if yon yung basahin kong bedtime story sa yo? he3x! :P
bambi: ay, you don't love me na... :(
========================================
lee: ayan, may pasalubong ako!
bambi: yay! ano?
lee: yung gusto mo, lucky me sotanghon, kahit labag sa kalooban... (long lucky story)
doc: um, she can't take sotanghon, it has cholesterol/fat....
bambi: di ko na kakainin...
lee: ay, you don't love me na... (ano ba talaga? kanina ayaw mo, tapos ngayon ayaw pa rin? :P)
========================================
bambi: yay, may pizza & chocolates ako!
lee: teka, bawal ka dyan diba?
bambi: no! that pizza & chocolate's mine!
lee: hon, gutom na ako, plus bawal sa yo...
bambi: waah!
lee: *mrmphmrmph?* (kinain na...)
========================================
bambi: (after sleeping) aray, ang sakit....
lee: bakit? (concerned)
bambi: masakit palang matulog sa hospital bed....
lee: talaga?? (looks at her incredulously. i had just slept on monoblock chairs)
bambi: oo, bakit, may scolio ka ba? matigas yung kama e....
lee: mas matigas sa monoblock?
bambi: (insistently) oo! hmph!
lee: (kung di lang libre yung pizza....)
========================================
bambi: pengeng tubig?
lee: eto.... (pours water in glass & hands it over to bambi)
bambi: thank you! (hands the glass back to lee)
lee: teka, di pa to ubos
bambi: hmm? ubos na.
lee: e kung itaob ko sya, matatapon yung tubig sa desk.
bambi: ayan. (splashes the minidroplets on lee's shirt.
lee: (kung di lang libre yung chocolates....)
========================================
bambi: ang sakit ng kabitan ng dextrose
lee: pero at least tumaba ka
bambi: talaga?
lee: oo! next time dapat may swero ka palagi! he3x! :P
bambi: hrm3x! (mental note: find IV needle & stick it in lee's eye...)

blustery bora bind

(a bit on the late side, but here goes...)

April 20, 2005

somebody must have forgotten to tell the sky that it's summer and i was in bora, because it was raining when i woke up in the morning!!! at least i had free breakfast at willy's (i think it was the continental breakfast w/ egg). i considered taking the trike, but since i'd be getting wet trying to get in & out of the trike, plus i'd get wet later that day anyway, what the heck right? besides, how far can it be? (famous last words.)

so i wrapped my shirt in a towel (since i'd have to wear a shirt later), then put in my stuff (my phones & other stuff), then put bambi's cigs in my pocket. wrong judgment: the rain was hard enough to soak through my board shorts.

(sidebar: bambi's cigs are w/ me since her fam doesn't know about her nasty little habit. i put it in my short pocket since if i had to unravel my towel in her hotel room w/ her fam there, i'd be in trouble too.)

so anyway, i trudged to red coconut, thinking it wouldn't be that far, so i wouldn't be that soaked. wrong judgment #2: i ended up like i swam through the ocean instead of walking beside it, with my towel to boot. i finally got to red coconut and she fortunately handed my a dry towel, alternately asking if i was ok and berating me for her soaked cigs... he3x! :P

so we waited for the rain to stop, then i got out for my first henna tattoo ever! i got a yin-yang w/ a sun & moon design on my right shoulder, while bambs got her 2nd tattoo for her stay: a dragon (ooh....). we then went to jammers for lunch and bambi was making kwento again, waving her arms in the air when she hit the still-wet yin-yang! fortunately, we were able to get a free touch-up for my tattoo, although her pinky finger was still blackish from getting the henna.... he3x! :P

we then ate at jammers for lunch, and i was saddened since i didnt manage my expectations on other people's description of the burgers and the burgers i ate. it was more like the burger machine type burger; not that a burger machine burger is bad, but it's certainly not an earth-shattering event. maybe i ordered the ordinary burger, they ordered the monster burgers...

we then went around to let the henna dry and went to jonah's for their shakes (finally mustering the patience to wait for the requisite 45 minutes) and chicken tacos. the waitress even snidely remarked that i should be the one paying for the tacos since we havent paid yet (bambi footed the bill). we were having our little world conversations, criticizing the coño kids roaming the area, when the commotion happened.

we initially saw this chick having an argument w/ her boyfriend (we assumed), shouting for him to "grow up" (yep, definitely a couple fight). after a few minutes, there were a bunch of guys shouting, and even a tanod (local neighborhood law enforcement officer) joined the scene. not listening on their conversation, but knowing trouble when i saw it, i nudged bambi for us to get out of there before it became a full-blown fight. it was only later when i found out for bambi (she heard the fight better from her side) that some guys might have been lugging around drugs, and the tanod was accosting them. oh well....

we went back to red coconut to swim around, then went to aria's for dinner for our anniversary dinner (we're on our 16th month!!!)! bambi wanted an embargo on pesto temporarily & the customary drinks, and i was thinking about ordering the sampler. of course, italian food being italian food, the prices were steep. so we ended up ordering creamy pasta & caesar salad (it's caesar w/ an AE, not cesar w/ an E; i should know, it's my name!). i wanted to order pizza, but we were full from the pasta & antipasta, plus the pizza was rather sizeable for a small resto. i also ordered my trusty san mig light, while bambi ordered her margarita. she drank the whole thing until she could taste the silicon particles binding the glass.... he3x! :P

we then went for a post-dinner drink @ mañanas, where bambi had two more margaritas & i had a bailey's & another san mig light. fortunately, i was still in control & bambi wasn't all that slinky, since the rest of her fam was there. also, her mom's reserve was balanced by her brother-in-law's mom's (typical pinoy relative connection) exuberance, plus the liveliness of her dad, her sisters & her brother-in-law. the night ended quite happily, with her being escorted by her siblings, and me trying to get see through my blurry contacts back to willy's at around midnight.

bora bonanza: part one: spicy soy sauce

To the 3 readers of my blog, I’m back from boracay, land of the polvoron sand! He3x! 5 days of swimming, sunbathing, vacationing; all the things I am never known for! Since I’m too lazy to organize my thoughts in a creative narrative (for example, use an "in medias res" approach or come up with a epic story), I’m just going to blog it by chronological order (boo! Hiss!). I’ll also be posting it by day in order to break up the rather long narrative.

April 19, 2005:

Erap’s birthday, what a way to start the day. Bambi has already texted me to come in early at the airport, so that I won’t have to fight the long lines. I was still eating my small breakfast when she called me (thank you sun cellular!) saying that she was already at the airport! Since I would have a later flight, I wasn’t all that worried. I picked up my 2 bags then went off to the airport. By the way, this is the first time I’d be travelling getting out of the house with just my flip flops on.

Upon arrival at the airport, I knew she was definitely right: the line was long. Fortunately, it was a moving line. At least it wasn’t as long & as torturous as my Hum I pre-enlistment back in 1996 (man, has it been that long?). finally, after being checked by the friskers & the x-rays, getting my ticket, and paying the terminal fee, I was in the departure area. There I saw bambi & her family! We played with her nieces & nephews for a while, particularly the twins, then I bought my newspapers to see the business chismis for the day. After a while, she & her family boarded, then I waited almost an hour before my flight. I almost missed my flight because I was watching the flight guide, but when Asian Spirit’s gate came up, they didn’t show the gate! I had to look for their gate, so I ended up at the shuttle with no seats remaining, and seeing someone who looked like toni gonzaga :P

After an uneventful flight, we arrived at caticlan airport, where it was undergoing construction. Thus, our arrival area was nothing more than a tent, we had to pick up the bags from the trailer thing. Fortunately, the willy’s resort guy ruel was waiting, so we got to my ride. Bambi and her fam got in earlier, she was already having a tattoo done.

When we boarded the boat to boracay, I was looking forward to it! I had just rode a boat in sorsogon and I fell in love with boating. This boat was enclosed though, but it was ok; I had the boat to myself, plus the 3 crewmembers. I initially thought we’d get off at the nearest part of the island, but I had to contain my excitement as we proceeded way beyond that point (ending up at station 1). We landed at the rock in front of willy’s resort, willy’s rock (only later would I find out that it was a really popular rock). The only thing I didn’t like about the resort was the kelp around the area (I’m not sure if it’s really kelp or a grosser substance; if it’s a grosser thing, I’d rather not find out).

I then walked in the midday sun to red coconut (bambi’s resort). I kept on looking at the left, just in case I missed it. Finally, I arrived at the resort, but she wasn’t around! Oh no! it turns out that she was looking for me at the beach walk while I was burning in the beach sand… we finally saw each other, shook hands, tweaked noses (ok that was made-up).

We then went to red coconut to see the rest of her family, then we ate at the restaurant there. They mostly ate seafood (my curse starts), so I was left with the liempo & the spicy soy sauce. After lunch, we then went to willy’s to show her my resort, but we didn’t immediately swim since the sun was doing it’s darndest to bake us that day, so we waited in the shade until it was better, then we swam away from the kelp.

We then went back to red coconut where I think we also swam by the beachfront then went to the poolside, where the pamangkins were swimming. After taking our showers, we went to this dampa-like place past D’Mall, and they ordered more seafood there. As usual, I stuffed myself with fried chicken & rice, which they fortunately ordered as well. After that, since we had a tiring first day, we went back to our hotel rooms.

More bora days to come! :P

butanding beguilement and blowout blues

to the 3 readers of my blog, i apologize for the rather long delay in posting messages. the office had been preparing for this big presentation, so i couldnt do much on my rest time except read the online newspapers.

at any rate, we went to legazpi city for business, then last saturday, we went to see the whale sharks (butanding) at sorsogon. initially i didn't want to, since i'm not really a water person & my bora trip w/ bambi would be coming up soon (watch out for bora bloopers!). but since it was quasi-office thing, i went ahead.

i have only ridden (right tense?) in bancas in less than five times throughout my entire life. when i rode last saturday, it was so cool! the spray against the face, the freedom of being able to sail across the water, it was amazing!

afterwards, the spotter would stop the banca and point to where the whale shark has been spotted (hence his title). in our flippers, masks, snorkels, and life vests, we dove in to swim for the fish. the first two times i missed it, but upon the third time (sans vest), i got to see it! beofre i went for the trip, i thought the whale shark was only as big as a human, at most (you can bonk me on the head now.). upon seeing the creature, it was huge!!! It was longer than a danged car!!! I even almost touched it’s tail fin! Wow!!! :D:D

=============

unfortunately, during our return back to the metro, we came in the airport late by 5 minutes!!! As a result, we had to take a rented van to manila, which takes around 8-10 hours. At camarines sur, we even experienced a blowout! Hay, 5 minutes… :(
